New Zealand pacer Tim Southee was reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Code of Conduct during the match against West Indies on Wednesday, confirmed the regulating body on Friday.

As per the statement released by ICC, Southee breached Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which is concerned with abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures or fittings during a match.

"New Zealand player Tim Southee has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group C match against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Wednesday," the ICC's statement read.

After losing his wicket during the run-chase against West Indies, Southee apparently hit a sanitiser dispenser. The pacer has accepted the sanction imposed by the match officials but he will be suffering one demerit point.

After Afghanistan defeated Papua New Guinea (PNG), New Zealand were officially eliminated from the T20 World Cup. Although they still have two more matches — Uganda and PNG — to play.

Against West Indies, chasing a target of 150 runs, New Zealand were restricted to 136-9 in 20 overs.

During the run-chase, Glenn Phillips scored 40 runs in 33 balls for New Zealand and was the highest run-scorer. However, the Black Caps struggled to gain momentum throughout the innings as they lost wickets regularly.

Alzarri Joseph finished with figures of 4-19, meanwhile, Gudakesh Motie snapped up 3-25.

Batting first, West Indies posted 149-9 in their allotted 20 overs. At one stage, it seemed that the home side would post a much lower total as they had slipped to 7-76 in the 13th over.

However, Sherfane Rutherford played a sensational unbeaten knock of 68 runs in 39 balls to help Windies reach a competitive total. His innings included two fours and six maximums.
